The London Fraud Forum, 13th October 2016, One Great George Street
Contego recently took part in the 10th Annual Conference of the London Fraud Forum. The conference brought together top counter-fraud specialists. Delegates from public and private sectors were able to share ideas, experience and best practice in the fight against fraud and financial crime.
The Forum took place in the magnificent setting, One Great George Street, which is an imposing location, highly suited for the high-powered discussions on fraud.
The conference had an excellent array of speakers. Kweku Adoboli, the keynote speaker, delivered a particularly captivating story. Kweku was a former UBS trader who served seven years in prison, having taken responsibility for losses incurred by the bank amounting to $2.2 billion. Kweku revealed he had suffered from a fixation on profit above all else, which was a consequence of the intense pressure to produce results within the trading environment.
We also heard from the City of London Police, the Joint Fraud Task Force, and the Global Cyber Alliance. It was interesting to hear the link between fraud and terrorism, the growing use of social engineering to commit fraud and how blockchain technologies are set to impact on fraud prevention in the future.
